Podere Merlo is an ancient country house consisting of a farmhouse and its farmland , tracked since the founding of Parma city by the Romans.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to religious orders and subsequently to French nobles, then was finally bought by our family in the early 1900 's.

The house, enlarged several times over the last two centuries, still preserves its ambience and some original parts from the second half of 1700.

After long decades of abandonment, in 2004 we began an ambitious and careful work of restoration of the whole building and the park with the desire to bring Podere Merlo back to life, as it was in the past. With this goal, we tried to recreate an unconventional place that could keep  its particular historical memory, choosing to preserve not only all theoriginal architectural elements, but also all details, materials and furniture still existing.

After ten years of work, the result is a place of timeless charm, that arouses emotions for its rustic architecture , the objects of the ancient daily life inside and the spaces of the natural environment that surrounds it: a bridge between past and present, who tells endless stories of life to all those whishing to to hear.

Podere Merlo gives you the chance to live an holiday experience that goes beyond the simple accomodation,  guiding you to discover the authentic parmesan lifestyle made of  proud culture, with nostalgia of old glories, of refined tastes, pleasures and passions proudly displayed.

On our side,  we want guests to enjoy freely the time of their stay, without placing restrictions on timing and  access.   Therefore, we will put you in position to be independent in moving around, giving you the keys of our house, and to have breakfast freely at any time in the morning.

Moreover, if you wish to enjoy what's best in Parma and its surroundings, we will be happy to help you making your stay unique and giving you all those information and advices you won't find in travel guides.

 

We will advise you about the most interesting itineraries,  all those beauties of the city and the province  you cannot miss, where you can taste the best local cuisine and purchase the products of the gastronomic traditions of Parma, famous throughout the world and perhaps.... even witness the making of the famous Parma Ham and Parmigiano cheese
